Same thing as the HUD editing questions thread, but there’s no ‘right’ place to go.
At worst, you’ll just have to use a different font. Note: There have been font issues reported for Mac, not sure if that’s a file hierarchy thing or OS compatibility thing. These links and more will be added to the end of the post. You can use TF2′s base HUD files to start your own, or take specific files from it and edit those (thanks, Mana, for keeping the HUD files, repo, and dream alive). If you decide that you’ve looked through so many HUDs and want absolutely none of them, RaysFire - an ex-IM Scout and current Super Mario Sunshine speedrunner - created a video series on how to build a HUD from scratch (click). If you intend to get a custom HUD just because it looks nice, that’s alright too. Many people go to GameBanana for their TF2 customizations, but it might help a little bit more to go to HUDs.tf, where the majority of HUDs, if not the entirety, are designed to efficiently get information for competitive play. The best HUDs are entirely subjective, find one that you like to look at and can easily get information from mid-game (you don’t wanna lose track of your own health or uber %). There are MANY HUDs out there with different artstyles and aesthetics - you just need to find what suits you best. (RaysHUD by RaysFire - HUDs.tf page | Imgur Gallery) Some people like more centralized information and health crosses, and that’s just fine.
Some people have gotten used to the health and ammo being at the corners by default, and that’s just fine. While this can be good for vision, it means you have to take your eyes off the center just to check your health and ammo - which just might lead to a quick death. The Default HUD (Heads-Up Display) for TF2 is very small and has most of the information anchored the corners. The other day, we posted about headsets and the available alternatives for voice communication, and then how there would be a post about custom HUDs and crosshairs and such.
