That was about the beginning of 2015, to me and thousands of PC users XCOM is Long War, Not EW.
Sound business decision, modding is the lifeblood of XCOM and PC is where it's done, I never knew XCOM even existed, until I saw Long War Streamed. Firaxis never said it wasn't getting a console release, just that it was releasing on PC first.
